(German version)
The student concert has always been an important part of instrumental instruction. Unfortunately, a fundamental problem in
violin teaching is that - unlike the piano - there are no original compositions by the "great" composers for the violin. I took this fact into account in the
publication of my violin school in 2011 and in the publication of my transcription of the cello Bach solo suites for violin in 2017. If we ignore the usual
reservations about student concerts by “minor violinists”, they do offer a number of advantages:
- in a mode that is clearly limited in difficulty (e.g. only first and third positions), the student can concentrate on applying what he has learned so far, - the
longer movements – in contrast to the short practice piece
– allow the student to build up his stamina in terms of concentration and violin stamina,
- the young musicians learn the situation of a concert at an early stage, particularly in relation to “the performance” and the presentation of three different
musical characters in one work,
- a teacher once aptly said: “Sonatas are for experts” – she is right! The sometimes frequent display of technical aspects is probably less “harming” the “solo concert” form than “real” chamber music.
